Emma stood at the top of the cliff, wind whipping her hair as though it were dancing in the wind. Tears streaked her face but she made no effort to wipe them away. She was numb. Five years of loving Matt, five years of trying to make everything perfect, and she’d discovered that those five years were nothing but a lie.
Five years wasted.
She barely glanced as Adam appeared beside her. He’d been there when Matt broke the news that he was leaving, seeing the whole ugly thing play out.
“It hurts, huh?” There was no emotion in his voice as he turned to face her. Emma nodded.
“Don’t worry, I have something for the pain.”
Adam laughed as he pushed her off the cliff. He was still laughing when he rejoined Matt, kissing him on the cheek lovingly.
“Alone at last.”
