‘It’s not real, is it?’
Daphne was talking to herself, there was nobody to answer her. A zillion thoughts were going through her head, trying to process the scenario she suddenly found herself in.
‘It can’t be true, it’s something I've heard on the news, something happening to someone else. Things like that don’t happen to me. It’s just a dream, any minute now I’ll wake up, and I’ll be back to normality.’
But it wasn’t a dream, Daphne was wide awake, still holding the letter in her shaking hand.
After all these years, she’d found him. Or he’d found her, well, they’d found each other.
Her baby boy, not a baby anymore, but still her son, had written to her and wanted to meet her.
As reality finally sunk in, the tears began to flow, falling down onto the paper, smudging the ink.
Things like that did happen to her after all.
