In the Garden

A canopy of majestic trees, lofty and tall,
Frame the dappled scene.
With hints of golden autumn,
To blend with summer green.

The trees dance in a musical breeze,
A secret melody of calm.
Swaying tendrils of willow,
Trail like tangled hair. Drifting. Drifting.

From an open window, the woman stares,
Warm air caressing her skin,
Like a lover’s tender fingers.
Soothing. Soothing.

There’s peace out there in the garden.
Space and light and air.
Nature’s meditation,
Gently easing every care.

An old, rusty arch, a battered gate,
A winding gravel path.
Beyond the gate is forever.
Light and space and air.

Open fields, limitless,wide,
Beneath eternal sky.
She inhales the peace of the garden.
Space and light and air.

An old stone urn, worn grey with time,
Cascading slender bells.
Red and vibrant. Wild and free,
Trailing late summer dreams.

Clouds of snowy anemone, faces toward the sun.
Luscious hydrangea, like pink lacy gloves,
Adorning a lady’s hand.
All is calm in the garden. Soothing Soothing.

She feels the tension melt away, the knotted mesh unwind,
The turmoil of a troubled world, each and every care.
All is peace in the garden.
Hope and space and air.

The short verses, repetitions and choice of words work together to give the whole poem a lilting and rhythmically soporific effect .

I'm glad you found the poem calming. It was inspired by my own garden which is very tranquil and peaceful. Thanks for your comments.

This poem portrays a sense of tranquility and calm and beyond open air and being free. I love it
