What a sad sight! This is my room at the hostel on the weekend after I’ve done the washing. I'm so lonely I've even ironed my underpants, and yes, don't laugh, my socks!
I miss you and little Darnie, but there are only a few more months to go until my exams. Then I will fly home to you. Believe me, it can’t come soon enough.
After I get back it will be full steam ahead as we will move to another mine. We will have a big house to match my new level of responsibility in the mine. Oh, and I'll enjoy the new title, Chief Mine Surveyor.
Don't worry, in your new designation as the wife of the chief mine surveyor, I would not expect you to iron underclothing not that I ever did, though. It’s my hope you will be fully occupied with coffee mornings for mining wives and dinner parties for visiting dignitaries in between looking after Darnie.
In the meantime, I guess I better squeeze past the airer showing off my domestic prowess and settle down to yet another assignment.
When I leave to come back to the two of you, I’ll bequeath the plant on my windowsill to the next poor soul sent here to study.
Tell Darnie his photo is on my wall, plus his wonderful drawing of a Union Jack, I’m so proud of him. They will come back with me!
Love both of you.
