A Summer Night

9/9/2023

A glowing orb
like an orange hangs.
Where a skylark sings
in a never-ending blue.

A warming breeze
disturbs his daily news,
as children play
on shimmering lawns.

Across the meadows
animals slumber,
whilst cornflower and bluebell
like an ocean sway.

In the valley
threading streams tumble,
wet stones glisten
and bull frogs hanker.

Now all is a purple haze
as dusk reclaims the day,
and back-bent farmers
wheat and barley store.

Heat dissipates
and soon a cooling earth
exhales an unseen sigh
as darkness draws its cloying veil.
